Hogs and Corn and So Much More

There’s a lot to be proud of here in the great state of Indiana. Although we may be a tad biased, we at Black Plate think food is one of the top reasons to celebrate all things Hoosier. It doesn’t take more than a quick stroll through the Indiana State Fair or a leisurely drive up I-69 to understand that, when it comes to pigs and corn, we’ve got it covered and then some.

Is a tenderloin as big as your head as romantic as a fresh Maine lobster? Well…maybe not, but it does have its own appeal. After all, things could be worse. We could be Alaska, where whale blubber rules the state’s culinary must-haves. Yum…? We’ll stick to fresh corn on the cob slathered in butter, thanks.

All that Hoosier pride and hospitality dovetails pretty darn perfectly with the top wedding theme four years and counting, which just happens to be “rustic.” Barns, we’ve got ‘em. Livestock, check. Ball jars, oh yeah—we practically invented the suckers. Indiana is like a Pinterest dream when it comes to planning a rustic event, and it doesn’t even have to be a wedding. You can celebrate your Hoosier Pride for any reason at all, and we’ll show you how.

From starters to mains and clear through to dessert, we do Indiana cooking with flair and style.

Kick things off with our Sweet Hot Bacon bites. Indiana ranks #5 in the US in pork production, and we do love our bacon. Wrap it in pastry, add the zing of chipotle, and you’ve got a blue ribbon winner.

Next up, wow your guests with our Marinated Grilled Indiana Pork Tenderloin, served with our own remoulade sauce. It’s one of our signature entrees and has everyone singing its praises. Pair that with our Sriracha Skillet Corn and a nice Farm Stand Chopped Vegetable Salad with roasted pepper vinaigrette for a fresh, zesty way to get more veggies in your craw. It’s never been so nice to be a Hoosier now, has it?

Oh, and don’t forget dessert. Never forget dessert…not here in the Heartland where pies and cakes are always the main feature of any self-respecting state fair. We Hoosiers do love our sweets, and you can’t go wrong with offering your guests our Strawberry Basil Cups or Warm Triple Berry Crumble Top Cobbler. Just like Grandma used to make, but—controversial opinion—better.
